What is NMX-SAST-001-IMNC-2008 certification?

Mexico’s NMX-SAST-001-IMNC-2008 standard for occupational health and safety sets out the control and monitoring requirements for occupational risk prevention strategies with a view to reducing the impact of accidents in the workplace. It is a Spanish translation of BSI OHSAS 18001:2007, approved by the British Standards Institution, and aims to define best-practice safety measures for reducing the number of accidents and injuries in accordance with Mexico’s official standards (NOMs) and applicable legislation.
This standard sets out to equip organisations with the tools they need to implement an effective occupational health and safety management system, which could be integrated with other management systems and will help the organisation to achieve both its health and safety and its financial targets. To obtain NMX-SAST-001-IMNC-2008 certification, an organisation must undergo an initial, on-site document review (Stage I), followed by an on-site certification audit on the basis of the resulting information (Stage II). Following the evaluation of the occupational health and safety management system, the chief auditor makes a recommendation to the relevant certification body, which ultimately decides whether or not to issue the certificate.
