What is Chain of Custody (CoC)?

Food fraud occurs sometimes by mistake and sometimes for financial gain. Offenders take advantage of the supply chain to substitute or mix non-certified products.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody (CoC) standard seeks to assure consumers and customers that any product sold with GLOBALG.A.P. certification originates from a producer or group of producers who are certified. The standard is currently valid in version 6 (v6).

The principles of the GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody standard are:

  • Management structure
  • Verification of inputs and outputs
  • Traceability system

Identification and labelling

Benefits of Chain of Custody certification

Certification to the Chain of Custody (CoC) standard guarantees traceability at all points, from the GLOBALGAP-certified producer or group of producers to the end consumer.

This standard provides a high degree of transparency and integrity, which adds value to both the product and the brand in the marketplace and offers greater peace of mind to our customers.

Who can obtain GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody certification?

Certification to the Chain of Custody (CoC) standard is mandatory for all intermediaries involved in the supply chain who want to sell GLOBALG.A.P. certified product, from the production site to the table or end consumer. This includes:

  • traders
  • brokers
