On 10th December 2015, José Francisco Rodríguez (Occupational Health and Safety Manager at Telefónica S.A.U.) was presented with his company’s SGIS certification by Federico Martinez (Director of Institutional Relations at Applus+ Certification). The award ceremony took place at Telefónica’s Madrid facility.
Certification as a “Empresa Saludable” enables those organisations that are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and the sustainability of their working environment to set themselves apart from the rest. This certification recognises Telefónica for its efforts in creating a healthy working environment for its employees.
"Empresa Saludable" certification scheme, developed by FRATERNIDAD MUPRESPA, is founded on the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Healthy Workplace Framework. The scheme under which Telefónica has been certified takes the general WHO criteria and reclassifies them into a series of categories (physical environment, psychosocial, health, community) encompassing more than 150 auditable aspects.
Telefónica is the first telecommunications company to be certified by Applus+ under this scheme. Applus+ has previously certified companies in other industries, such as Enagas and Correos, as Healthy Businesses.
It is important to note the public commitment that Telefónica has made in seeking certification as a Healthy Business since this certification scheme entails annual monitoring and recertification by Applus+. As such, it ensures the existence of a dynamic management system, the setting of targets, the creation of an action plan to meet them and continuous improvement.
