The Sant Joan de Déu Palma-INCA Hospital is the first in the Balearic Islands to be certified in National Security Scheme (ENS)

The client  

The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Palma-Inca is part of the Balearic public health network and is a reference hospital for geriatric care, rehabilitation, palliative care and certain orthopaedic surgery and traumatology procedures. It has three centres in Mallorca: Palma, with 18,000 m2 and almost 200 beds; Inca, with 6,000 m2 and 80 beds; and the Rehabilitation Centre. 

The challenge 

In a healthcare environment where sensitive data is handled, it is essential to ensure the correct protection of information systems against potential internal and external threats and incidents. The National Security Scheme (ENS) ensures this and, as a public law entity, the Hospital must certify its information system in accordance with this regulation. In order to meet the requirements of the scheme, it faces a number of challenges:      

• Integration of the ENS with the rest of the systems in the quality area: ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.  
• Development of cybersecurity applications under the schemes and guidelines of the CCN.  
• Information Security Surveillance.   
• Full integration with Personal Data Protection and Patient Law processes.  
• Integration of metrics and KPIs dashboards for decision making.  
• Implementation of a staff awareness plan.  
• Development of documentary elements published in collaborative and state-of-the-art tools based on an "ENS Agile" methodology. 

The solution    

The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Palma-Inca requested a National Security Scheme audit from the Applus+ Certification audit team. After the audit, the hospital obtained a double certification, according to ISO 27001 and the National Security Scheme (ENS).   

The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Palma-Inca requested the National Security Scheme (ENS) and ISO 27001 Security Management System Certification audit services from the Applus+ Certification team. Following the satisfactory outcome of the audit, the hospital obtained the double certification.

The result     

The Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Mallorca is the first in the Balearic Islands to obtain ENS certification.
