The increasingly global and complex nature of food companies’ supply chains has required the introduction of common food safety and quality standards. Chilean legislation, following the global trend, now imposes far stricter requirements on the domestic sale and export of food products. These include obliging food manufacturers to implement hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) systems in accordance with Chile’s NCh 2861 standard.

What is NCh 2861 certification?

The NCh 2861 certification of agri-food companies contributes to ensuring the safety of food throughout the entire food chain, right up to the end consumer, through the implementation of HACCP systems. The end goal of an HACCP system is to focus controls on critical points in order to provide continuous monitoring and boost customer confidence with respect to food production methods.
Chile’s food safety policy, as reflected in Supreme Decree 9777, obliges food manufacturers to put safe products to market, both domestically and when it comes to exports. Complying with this obligation involves implementing an HACCP system under NCh 2861.
