Regatta organiser gains certification under the event sustainability standard.

Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB), the organiser of the Barcelona World Race round-the-world regatta, has obtained certification under UNE-ISO 20121:2013, the standard for sustainable event management.

This certification came following the London 2012 Olympic Games. By sustainability, the standard is referring to the efficient and responsible management of society, the economy and the environment with a view to fostering a more comfortable, viable and equitable coexistence.

The Barcelona World Race is following in the footsteps of other major sporting events including London 2012 and Roland-Garros, which have already achieved this certification.

The award ceremony took place on 31st July 2014 in the Barcelona World Race Interpretation Centre, where Guillem Pastor, Systems Certification Operations Manager at Applus+, presented the certificate to Andor Serra, FNOB’s Managing Director.

ISO 20121 represents a further step towards FNOB’s sustainability goals and comes on the back of the foundation’s 2012 certification in occupational health and safety, quality and the environment.
